Angry Birds is the #1 iPhone app in the US, UK, and dozens of other countries. It is a total hit with the public who cannot get enough levels to play. Yet wisely, Rovio Mobile — the developer of Angry Birds — did not limit itself to developing an iPhone app. Through creative licensing, Angry Birds can come to life in TV shows, movies, scores of merchandise categories (backpacks, plush dolls, hats, t-shirts, etc.), and in unique promotions like the incentive to download Google’s Chrome Browser or as the backbone of T-Mobile’s advertising campaign.

Where could your imagination take you? What ideas do you have for a great brand like Angry Birds? What ideas would you have for a less well known brand, or a brand that is completely defunct or has been out of the public idea for decades? A friend had an idea to license failed airline brands from Eastern Airlines to Braniff International for a wide variety of merchandise and other concepts such as a apparel, collectible airplanes, a night club, and even a special section of a Las Vegas casino floor.
